Summary of Services
Relaxation/Swedish Massage
The goal is to calm the central nervous system, facilitating a sense of relaxation and well-being. Relaxation massage can incorporate the whole body or focus on a specific area of tension and stress. Many clients choose to combine therapeutic massage with relaxation in order to treat areas of concern while still receiving the nurturing and calming effects that you get with relaxation massage.
Therapeutic/Deep Tissue Massage
The focus is to treat area(s) of the body that are under stress whether due to an injury or other dysfunction (postural or structural). There is often joint and/or muscle pain, limited range of motion and an inability to complete activities of daily living without pain or discomfort. Examples of such dysfunctions are neck and shoulder aches, low back pain, chronic headaches, tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, sprains and strains.
Trigger Point Therapy
A trigger point is a hyperirritable spot that is painful. It is called a trigger point because it "triggers" a painful response. Trigger points are located in a taut band of muscles fibers. The trigger point is the most tender point in the band. The therapist will locate and deactivate them using finger pressure. One technique is to pick up the muscle fibers in a pincer grip.
Myofascial Release
Is a soft tissue therapy for the treatment of skeletal muscle immobility and pain. This therapy aims to relax contracted muscles, improve blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulate the stretch reflex in muscles.
What is Fascia? It is a thin, tough, elastic type of connective tissue that wraps most structures within the human body, including muscle. Fascia supports and protects these structures. This soft tissue can become restricted due to overuse, trauma, infectious agents, or inactivity, often resulting in pain, muscle tension, and corresponding diminished blood flow. Although fascia and its corresponding muscle are the main targets of myofascial release, other tissue may be addressed as well, including other connective tissue.
Sports Massage
For the athlete, sports massage techniques are utilized at all stages: pre-event, post-event, during training, and to expedite rehabilitation after injury.
Hot Stone Massage
The use of traditional massage techniques incorporating the healing benefits of hot stones. The stone's heat allows the muscles to relax more quickly and deeply and has a calming affect on the central nervous system. While the overall effects of hot stone massage are deeply relaxing there is also a therapeutic element as the heat of the stones combined with massage can help with chronically tight muscles.
